atmospheric

Put simply, “atmospheric” refers to a style of firing ceramics in which the air within the kiln significantly impacts how the piece will turn out. This includes gas, salt, soda and wood kilns.

I am currently exploring wood & soda firing under the guidance of Logan Wannamaker in Taos, NM.

The process is as arduous as it is invigorating and I am both fascinated and humbled by the nature of it.

Wood firing, in particular, establishes a direct connection to the elements — earth, fire, water, and air — where natural forces shape the work with both beauty and unpredictability.

In this process, I am exploring harmonious shapes and surfaces using both industrial and wild materials.
